College Emergency Closing/Delay Information
Harcum
College
will, in extreme circumstances, delay or cancel classes and administrative office operations due to inclement weather. In the event that the College must delay the start of classes and administrative operations, there will be either a one hour delay or a two-hour delay. If there is a one hour delay, classes will begin and offices will open at 10 a.m. If a two hour delay is announced, classes will begin and offices will open at 11 a.m. Announcements on local radio and television will note the change (see list below). This delay will allow for improved road conditions and will also enable the College Facilities staff enough time to clear roads and parking areas.
If it is impossible for an employee to be at work because of weather conditions, the supervisor should be notified immediately.
A decision to alter the morning class schedule and notification to the local radio and television stations will be made by 5:30 a.m. and communicated to the mass media and Harcum’s phone and web site as quickly as possible.
The decision to cancel evening classes will be made prior to 3:00 p.m. If offices are to close before the end of the workday because of weather conditions, offices will be notified by automated voice messages on campus telephone extensions, and by email.
Radio and television stations carrying Harcum closing information are:
KYW-AM (1060) WTXF-TV (Fox 29) WCAU-TV (Channel 10)
On KYW-AM the College’s school closing numbers are 300 for day classes and 2300 for evening and Saturday.
The College website www.harcum.edu will also post delays and/or closing information. Look at the first entry under “Harcum News” in the lower left hand corner of the home page where the bulleted news items appear.
For more distant students and visitors coming to or from Harcum, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has a Road Condition Hotline, a toll-free number for travel conditions on interstate roads: 1-888-783-6783 from November 1 through April 30. This number is available to callers in Pennsylvania and to out-of-state callers whose telephone area codes border Pennsylvania.
