Overview
Many opportunities exist in hospitals, research facilities and private doctor’s offices for individuals who want to become members of theAllied Health professional team. This team includes nurses, radiologic technologists, clinical laboratory technologists, physical therapists, phlebotomists, dental hygienists, histology technicians and more. Harcum’s Allied Health Science curriculum contains two distinct tracks to meet the needs of individuals pursuing an Allied Health career. Students can enter the two-year program at Harcum to prepare for transfer to a four-year institution where they will complete the final two years of a bachelor’s degree program. An associate of science degree will be granted upon successful completion of the two-year Allied Health Science Program.
Students can also pursue the one-year Allied Health Science career track designed for students who require prerequisite coursework prior to official acceptance into the professional health science program of their choice at Harcum College. Each of the above options can be pursued on a full-time or part-time basis. Program Goals and Objectives
- Provide a firm foundation of knowledge to ease the transition of students transferring to a four-year institution.
- Help each student acquire effective communication skills for interaction with patients and other professionals.
- Instill a sense of professionalism in students and pride in themselves as members of the healthcare profession.
- Instill in each individual the appreciation of continuing education and lifelong learning.
Application Requirements
Acceptance into the Allied Health Science Program is dependent upon the following entrance requirements: Completed Harcum College application
- Official high school transcript
- Official college transcript(s), if applicable
- Completion of high school biology (with lab), chemistry, Algebra I and Algebra II with a grade of C or higher
- Personal essay
- Physical exam
- TOEFL scores (required for students for whom English is a second language)
