THREE HARCUM ATHLETES EARN NJCAA ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICAN HONORS
Bryn Mawr, Pa. (July 6, 2010)--Harcum College student-athletes Gabrielle Moore, C.J. Scott, and Berend Weijs have been recognized for their outstanding achievements in the classroom by the being named NJCAA Academic All-Americans for the 2009-10 year. They become the first Harcum student-athletes to earn the distinction.
Moore, a sophomore women's basketball player, was named a Distinguished Academic All-American, requiring a G.P.A. of 3.8 or higher. On the court, she helped lead the Lady Bears to a 29-2 overall record and the Region 19 tournament championship.
Scott and Weijs, members of the men's basketball team, were named Academic All-Americans, requiring a G.P.A. of 3.6 or higher. The duo teamed up to lead the Bears to a 26-3 overall record and a #3 ranking in the final NJCAA Division I men's basketball poll.
HARCUM TO ADD WOMEN'S SOCCER IN 2010-11
Harcum College Athletic Director Drew Kelly has announced that Bears will be adding women's soccer for the 2010-11 academic year. The varsity level program will compete in the National Junior College Athletic Association at the Division I level. The Bears will compete in Region XIX, which boasts some of the top Division I women's soccer programs in the country.
The Bears have not fielded an intercollegiate women's soccer program in nearly a decade. "The return of women's soccer is the next step in the long range plan for our athletic department," says A.D. Drew Kelly. "It's exciting. I'm looking forward to seeing the team on the field."
