HISTORIC SEASON COMES TO A CLOSE FOR HARCUM
Bryn Mawr, Pa. (March 7, 2010)--The 2009-2010 season drew to close for Harcum as the Bears lost to Monroe College in the NJCAA District 3 Tournament Saturday. It brings to an end an historical season for Harcum, as the Bears finished the year with a 26-3 record.
Harcum, in just its second season as a NJCAA Division I member, won its first 25 games of the season, claiming the #1 national ranking in the NJCAA Division I men's basketball poll. The Bears became the first school from the northeast to be ranked #1 in the nation since 1974. Harcum's 25 consecutive wins set a new school record. The Bears finished the season ranked third in the NJCAA poll, while leading the nation in scoring with 110 points per game. Harcum also led the nation in three point field goals (11 per game).
Individual honors went to Harcum sophomore guard Antonio Bumpus, who earned 1st team all-region 19 honors and was the region player of the year. Bumpus became just the second player in school history to score over 1,000 career points, finishing his stellar two-year career with 1,021 points. Freshman Andre Paulk also earned 1st team all-region 19 honors, while sophomore Jeremiah Bowman was named to the all-region 2nd team. Bowman will leave Harcum as the school's all-time assists leader.
