Phlebotomy training prepares an individual to function as a phlebotomist (blood drawer) in a variety of health care settings. A phlebotomist is responsible for the collection of blood specimens by venipuncture and micro collection, transportation of specimens, and preparation of patients for certain laboratory exams. As a member of the clinical laboratory team, the Phlebotomist has an important role in patient specimen collection and providing information involving total patient care.
Employment opportunities include, but are not limited to, work in:

- physicians' offices
- laboratories
- blood banks
A career in phlebotomy is a wonderful introduction to other health technology occupations.
Coursework includes basic phlebotomy skills, an overall understanding of health care delivery systems and medical technology. Students will learn:
- Phlebotomy practice by reviewing anatomy and physiology of the body systems
- Equipment used for Phlebotomy
- Safety practices and universal precautions
- Venipuncture techniques and safety practices
Through lecture, assigned readings, class discussion and hands-on participation, the student will be able to demonstrate competencies to sit for the Board of Registry in Phlebotomy Technician. Students will also be prepared to take the National Certifications Exam.
All classes are taught by registered Phlebotomists with years of experience in the field.
