First Year Advising

All first year students are encouraged to use the services provided by the First Year Experience Coordinator. The First Year Experience Coordinator’s role is to increase retention. The Coordinator works alongside Harcum students as an advisor, mentor, liaison, and program coordinator who motivates them to take ownership and responsibility for their academic success. Directing students to the proper support personnel is also an important part of the job.

The Coordinator conducts workshops as well as teaching a character development component of Harcum 101. The Coordinator works with faculty to gain a sense of the encumbrances students either create or fall prey to, then in turn devises plans to counteract those issues. Finally, the Coordinator engages in detailed tracking of student academic progress.
