Meet the Office of College Advancement

Sachiko Mallach
Vice President of College Advancement

Sachi Mallach joined Harcum’s Advancement team in August of 2009. With thirteen years of development experience in educational institutions across New York, New Mexico and Pennsylvania, Sachi proves to be passionate about philanthropy.

“People who contribute their time and resources are optimists,” Sachi says, “they see a need or opportunity and take action because they believe they can make a difference. It’s a pleasure to engage donors and volunteers with important causes, and I enjoy fostering those connections at Harcum.”

Sachi earned her B.A. in Comparative Politics from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, and also attended classes at Eotvos Lorand University in Budapest, Hungary and Cambridge University in Cambridge, England. A West Chester, PA resident, Sachi enjoys spending her free time with her husband and daughter.

Sachi enjoys hearing from Harcum College alumni and friends, and hopes to continue learning about the unique Harcum experience. Get in touch with Sachi to share your thoughts!

Susan Friedland
Director of Foundations and Grants

Susan Friedland has over twenty years of wide-ranging experience in non-profit fundraising, special events planning and public relations. She earned her B.A. in Liberal Arts—with a focus in Spanish literature and linguistics—from Penn State University, and her M.S. in Instructional Design Technology from Philadelphia University.

“Every day is an education,” says Susan about her unique involvement on Harcum’s campus—as the gathering of diverse, meaningful information is a daily activity among her vast grant-building pursuits. “Because of Harcum’s small, intimate size, I can see the big picture and really get to know the people,” she said. Harcum’s “niche situation,” she explains, sets the student experience apart from other schools; Susan strives to ensure these exceptional attributes are emphasized, and that the school’s mission is “clearly stated, defined and funded to reach its full potential.”

In Susan’s free time she enjoys gardening, entertaining, traveling, hiking, historical fiction, spa vacations and visiting her two children.

She's also a member of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), in which she serves as a District II Conference volunteer. Melissa earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Elmira College in Elmira, NY.

Melissa notes Harcum’s “great sense of community, strong foundation, and great potential for growth.” In her new position, Melissa aims to work closely with the Harcum community “to engage more alumni, and to increase levels of participation in giving.”

Melissa spends most of her free time staying as involved as she can with her two children and their activities.

Rachel Kraushaar
Assistant Director of Annual Giving & Special Events

Rachel Kraushaar joined Harcum’s Office of College Advancement in March 2012. Rachel comes to Harcum with experience in communications, development, fundraising, and event planning from various corporate, non-profit, and political organizations. Most recently, she was the Development Assistant for the Anti-Violence Partnership of Philadelphia (AVP), where she was responsible for wide-ranging fundraising activities, including foundation and grant proposals, corporate and individual giving, board cultivation, and events. She now serves on AVP’s Board of Directors and is an active member of its Development Committee.

Rachel holds a BS in Journalism with a strategic communications emphasis and a BA in Psychology from the University of Kansas. Having paid her own way through college, Rachel says, “I understand the sacrifices students make to achieve a college education. Working to grow Harcum’s Annual Fund to support scholarships and campus-wide improvements that foster valuable college experiences for students is very rewarding.”

In her free time, Rachel enjoys backpacking and hiking the Appalachian Trail and nearby parks, reading, traveling, and spending time with her chocolate lab, Lucy.
